You never know who might fortuitously be sitting the audience; in the case of Elie Rizk and his Reggie Watts show, it just so happened to be the person in charge of putting on TEDxUMD! Maryland student Alex Rifkin must've seen something he liked, because within a couple days of the performance, he was already contacting the musician and his backing band about a follow up performance on campus at the school's very own "TED" conference.
The now world-renowned TED organization has become famous for delivering high-powered intellectual "talks" that pique the interest of people from all walks of life. In recent years, the group has expanded its endeavors to include sponsorship of independent, TED-sponsored events in communities around the world. Academic hubs are obviously popular venues for these discussions, and on November 14th, the University of Maryland will put on its own conference entitled "Transcending Limitations." Visit their website for a full list of this year's program.
The all-day event, which will take place in the Riggs Alumni House, features ten speakers and two performers. Elie Rizk and the Cool Kids is expected to go on for a brief set and play a couple songs around 12:40. You can buy tickets right HERE on eventbrite.
